Book Summary of Aung San Suu Kyi: A Biography

This hook weaves together the personal and political life of Nobel laureate and democratic icon Aung San Suu Kyi, who has been the face of the peacefull movement for freedom in Burma for decades now. It examines her life from up-close and presents her views and thoughts on many issues in her own words — like the years she spent in India and the deep influence that Mahatma Gandhi had on her life.

It is also a telling account of the atrocities of the junta in Burma. Aung San was released from her current third period of detention in November 2010. Along the way, she's had to make many sacrifices, like the time when she was not able to see her cancer stricken husband one last time before he passed away as the government slid not let him visit her, and she didn't want to leave the country for fear of not being readmitted.

This book is a result of a number of interviews that the author had with Aung San, which in itself is a remarkable feat given the restrictions placed by the junta government. It is an effort to spread greater awareness of her snuggle and a step in following her words, 'Please use your Liberty to promote ours'.
