It isn’t always easy to tell the story of an athlete who is still working to embellish her legacy. And that is why, the endearing struggle of a middle class family and the militant discipline of a player turned coach – both energised by a grand vision – add much needed layers to a story well told. Sudhir’s prose sits lightly on the lips, but it does leave a lasting impression on the soul.
The book is intimate and insightful in its effort to help the reader grasp the nuances in the making of a potentially mighty champion. One could wish for a deeper insight into the dalliances of 2011 and her life off the court, but then the author is the kind that would happily trade revenue for a little respect. Go read it; the coffee is going to smell better when you wake up the next morning.
